La Plaza Cultural community Park and Garden
Process
|
This project was my first experiment with a collective aesthetic. The following article in the zine "Version" published by Paul Johnson in 1993 describes the social process of building that Perre DiCarlo and I used when collaborating with the general public in community park and garden setting in Manhattan's East Village. Our goal was to work with the pre-existing creative public on whatever they felt necessary to design and build. Although La Plaza is described in the article as a community garden it is a community park and garden. The public access to the park was critical. Anyone on the street was welcome to come in and engage in the design and building of the structure.

The community continues to shape the garden and park. The following photos are from 2007, fourteen later.
